Not sure on how old you are so the following may be irrelevent but most classic policies you have to be over 25 to be able to take them out.

Also depends on what your looking for out of a car. Do you need to have practicality, 2/4/5 seats, 2/4 door etc as to what would best suit your needs.

Well based on the fact I'm picking one up tomorrow, I'd suggest a Mazda2.

Comes in 1.3 and 1.5, both have book figures of over 60mpg on motorways and are cheap to tax and insure etc.

I'm 21 so classic policy is out the window,, preferably looking for a 5dr but considering a 3dr. Think I may go for a civic 1.4i ?

The Civic's are a good call. Older Jap stuff goes for stupid money, due to a scene tax that would make a MK1 Escort owner blush :biggrin:
I'd be biased and say a 5 door Almera SRi 1.6, but they only have around 100 bhp and are pretty rare.
