Hi

Since i am using a 155mm pulley on my supercharger setup i allready got my second supercharger broke while i heard from mercedes guys that these chargers are bulletproof.
I think the problem on the lexus is that the charger has a bolted supercharger pulley while mercedes uses a magnetic clutch.
Does anyone know how i could run with a clutched supercharger setup?
I do have a spare supercharger with magnetic clutch but when i turn it off inthink it get starved from air when i accelerate. Because when you push the gas pedal the bypass closes and the engine gets no air.
How do other people use the magnetic clutch?
I want to turn the supercharger off when i dont need boost during daily driving and turn it on when i want to have fun with the car to extend the life time of the charger.

allright i didnt expect some answers anymore so i thought is just try and see how it goes.

So i picked up a new ( used ) supercharger from a mercedes slk230 wich is in good condition and there was also an oem mercedes magnetic clutch on it.
So i bought a switch with a light and wired the supercharger clutch.

everything is working fine. I can switch the supercharger on and off.
When it is off the engine still gets enough air and i can use the car for cruising and normal daily driving.
When i want to race or fast driving i can switch the charger on and i got boost.
works perfect.

I ran that setup a few years ago, mainly to see if it would make a difference on fuel ecenomy. I didn't notice any difference, but if you're using an induction kit it's nice to be able to turn the noise off I guess.

When it's off and you close the bypass valve your intake still gets enough air, it's just forced through the supercharger which makes it spinn on its own.

I wanted this setup to extend the life of the supercharger. I allready broke 2 chargers in 3 years probably because i have a bigger pulley. I dont want to change charger every year.
With the switch i can turn it off so when daily driving or cruising it wont be used unnescecary. Hopefully it will last longer.

With the charger off the air goes through the bypass and when the bypass closes the air is forced through the charger wich indeed will spin the charger. But that will be far less rpm as when i have it switched on. So i think it is a good solution to extend my superchargers life

Sorry to dig up an old post Patrik but how did you get around the black box when you switch off the charger ?

You don't have to. When the supercharger is switched off and no boost is produced the Black box does nothing at all, so the ECU will just think you're running a standard N/A setup.

Ah right, The only other thing I can think that might mess it all up is the ecu learning, surely it would affect the fuel trims constantly, or would a piggy back help stop this ?
