Back-to-back Formula 3 victories for Mardenborough in Japan

MOTEGI, Japan – GT Academy ace Jann Mardenborough dominated the action at last weekend's round of the Japanese Formula 3 championship, taking both race victories at Twin-Ring Motegi in Japan.The Brit recorded his sixth pole position of the year, his fifth fastest lap and fourth victory to extend his championship lead to 19 points.Mardenborough battled the wet conditions for qualifying for the Saturday race (round 11) and qualified second fastest. A last minute downpour before the green flag had the race beginning behind the safety car. After battling through the spray, Mardenborough made the pass for the race lead on lap 11 and went on to record the fastest lap of the race the next time around before taking the checkered flag.Sunday's race was even more dominant for Mardenborough. He qualified on pole, led from the start, scored the extra point for the fastest lap of the race, and he went on to win by 8.121 seconds."I was able to take victory in both a wet and dry race, so it was a really good weekend for me," said Mardenborough. "I crashed in Thursday's practice, but the team were able to get the car back in shape and it felt really good in both qualifying and the race. It's really fun to race at Motegi because the races really come down to hard braking battles. There are still five races remaining in the championship, so it might be a little early to be thinking about the title. I just want to focus on the next round and make sure I'm completely prepared for it."With teammate Katsumasa Chiyo recovering from a back injury from the last Super GT round, Nissan's Blancpain GT Series ace Mitsunori Takaboshi stepped aboard the No.23 Formula 3 machine for the weekend.The Japanese driver battled the weather for seventh place in Saturday's event and was battling for third place on Sunday before a late race spin forced him back to eighth position.Takaboshi has been added to the entry list alongside Chiyo and Satoshi Motoyama for the No.46 S Road Craftssports GT-R for the Suzuka 1000km next weekend.
