Top 10 finishes for Kelly brothers in Australian Supercars opener
ADELAIDE, South Australia, Australia – Brothers Rick and Todd Kelly came away from the opening round of the 2017 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship with top 10 finishes on the streets of Adelaide at the Clipsal 500.After Rick Kelly pulled off a strong fifth place finish in Saturday's first 250km race, Todd Kelly followed that up with a ninth place on Sunday.Michael Caruso's Nissan NISMO-liveried Nissan Altima was also looking strong for a top 10 finish on Sunday before suffering a late-race puncture that sent him back down the order.Swiss racer Simona de Silvestro kicked off her debut in the championship at what is considered one of the toughest events on the calendar. After a solid run on Saturday, her Sunday performance was hampered by being tapped into a spin while entering the pit lane for her second stop and a late-race penalty for curb hopping."I'm happy to finish 9th, but to be honest, when I got out of the car I was a bit annoyed," said Todd Kelly. "The car was really fast; to pass a few cars like that is a sign that we had the thing hooked up. If we had qualified better it shows we had the speed to finish higher than ninth. But we finished ninth and we'll take that. It's quite promising to have a pacey race car at the end there."The Australian Nissan Motorsport will next be seen in action on the streets of Albert Park alongside the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix on March 23 to 26.Car had good pace today. It hurts to go close to the end for our tyre to blow.
