Well I am right chuffed, as I have just completed fitting a new set of coils to my RX-8. Now that is a major mechanical achievement for me Blush I had it on the dyno last weekend & the tuner said it was misfiring. Not that you could notice. So I said I had just had new plugs & leads fitted. So he said better look at the coils as the RX-8 has a habit of destroying the low quality Mazda ones that are fitted especially after 20k. So had a look through the RX-8 forum & low & behold it is a fact. My Rex is just over 22k on the clock. Unbelievable I thought as the car is just over 3 years old. So bought some new uprated ones & read through the how-toos on the RX-8 forum. Everyone seem to say how easy it was so gave it a go. 1hour later thats them fitted.

Coil location, (blue tape just keeping wires clear)

seemingly the tell tale sign is a white spot on the coil.....as I had on all 4

Nice new shiny ones

If these are not changed it results in a new engine !!!

So glad I had the car dyno,d & just goes to show even the not very mechanically minded :confused1: can manage basics.

Cheers

Good job mate, nice when you catch problems early :thumbup1:

Hows the power after 20,000+ miles? have you gained/lost any over standard? Big Grin

Power was down a bit but now I have changed coils the misfire should have gone which will allow a better power build up. Also bought some Powerenhancher magic potion that was recommended again of RX forum. Was advised by tuner to do these fixes plus run on V-power & he will run again in about a month. So we will see.

Good stuff, suprising it gets through them quite so quickly but as you say just as well to change them while your engine is still in one piece !

As Stav says, it's a real good feeling when you do something like this yourself
