parthiban Sure, I didn't mean in terms of whether you or your insurance pay for it, but I just thought seeing as you pay a fee to use the track that that should cover what happens on it.

No mate, it apparently covers the upkeep (new tarmac, rusty fences, etc) its kind of like road tax but for the ring specifically

I guess that sort of makes sense, that makes it even more insane that people go on it without any insurance!

you cant be insured when driving on the ring with uk plates as all uk insurers exclude it by name and certainly would class it as a race track. If you have german insurance then you are covered and its a case of making sure that you pay for a german policy if you plan on driving the ring(for this you need a german residence and need to have your car i germany for a minimum oeriod of time per year.I know of someone running two policies. If you are invlolved in a serious crash on the ring,ie with another vehicle which has caused injuries to either party(ie whiplash or worst)then the police need to complete their usual reports-they will ask for a valid license and of course insurance docs.when you produce them, they may or may not call your insurer to confirm you are insured to drive in europe or they may just take your word for it or accept an insurance certificate as proof of insurance.regardless of what happens at this stage you are most probably not going to be in trouble with the police as you are able to a)produce a valid license from your country as well as b)a valid insurance certificate from your country and of course are paying for the damage caused to ring/trucks/track closure etc.The main problem UK drivers face is when the german insurer appoaches your uk insurer to discuss a settlement and appoint blame, they are then presented with that you the client are not actually covered on the ring, which is when they will turn to you personally for financial settlement. If its a minor ding,no worries-but if someone is hospitalised then the medical bills and legal costs will all have to be settled if you are found to be at fault.its then upto a court to decided based on the police report, wittnesses etc.its serious stuff-many people will dismiss it as being a normal road but it most certainly isnt.
