Could be water getting into the fuse box under the bonnet, any signs of anything in there ?

This really is strange! I looked where the ecu is and the fusebox under the bonnet and both are dry with no signs of water.

Sparkystav: Is there any info about the wiring you can remember that may help me resolve this issue?

Im dreading i may have to change the ignition barrel Confusedad: the moment the key is pushed in slightly all is ok - both the security light turns off and the efi relay stops clicking.

p.s. with regards to having water ingress due to a bad seal with their windscreen, what exactly needs to be dried and where? I may try using a hairdryer on the drivers foot well just to see if it helps?

Thanks again for all your support!

It's probably nothing to do with the ignition barrel. When you put the key in, the immobiliser recognises the electronics in the key fob and disables itself, so that is why there's a change in what's going on.

When there's a windscreen seal problem it seems to be usually on the driver's side, because it often affects the automatic lights (meaning your lights can stay on when the ignition is off), and some of the boxes under there can seem to get wet, including the driver's side fusebox. Check both fuseboxes perhaps for any signs of getting wet/corrosion ?

I know this is an old thread, but I just thought I'd share a link to a possible solution which has worked for several people with these issues.

Here you go: http://my.is/forums/f88/efi-relay-igniti...on-428768/

Here's the part that probably needs to be replaced: http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_E_2000_LE...l?hl=84450
