Its in horrendous trouble mate,

they tried to make a huge commercial entity out of something that isnt.

the location of it for a start isnt exactly central to anything for a shopping centre etc. All it needed was the track maintained and some better car parking.

Situation around the Ring is very bad. More information can be found on facebook group SaveTheRing, maintained by Mike Frison, who also maintains several NBR-related sites and a blog: http://20832.com/?lang=eng (now you know the length of the Nordschleife in meters), http://jalopnik.com/tag/savethering/

We don't have to take this!
Spread the word, like they do!

Here is some background information on what is going on lately:

1. Prices for manufacturers have increased by factor 10. In November, the management of Nürburgring GmbH (privately held since May 2010) announced in a meeting with the automotive industry that they would pay 10 million Euros in 2011 for 16 weeks of testing, instead of 1 million Euros in 2010. The industry left the meeting. BMW will probably close its M-center completely and move activities to Barcelona, while Porsche and Mercedes are already heavily involved in the new Nardo speed ring with new handling course. If the Nürburgring management believes that they have a monopoly, they are very wrong. Industry officials already stated that they will leave the Eifel because there are other drawbacks: staff safety & insurance, labour cost (labour hours to travel by road to Eifel, instead of by plane to Nardo & Barcelona). It is also a public secret that the big manufacturers already have so much data recorded that they can effortlessly replay Nordschleife laps on their simulators over and over again, without putting man and material at risk of accidents.

2. Prices Touristenfahrten 2011:
1 Lap 24,00 € (+9%)
4 Laps 89,00 € (+19%)
15 Laps 310,00 € (+24%)
25 Laps 470,00 € (+21%)
Jahreskarte 1.350,00 € (+26%)

Can't seem to edit my text. Just to avoid misunderstanding: the industry doesn't want to leave the Nürburgring, but they confirmed that they will do it if the management of the Ring doesn't agree to a compromise. If they would leave, they say they still have the Nürburgring data in their simulators and the sunny tracks in Southern countries.
