I have a selection of old Dell servers that I've built up over the years for testing network stuff on. 1 of them was installed in a server hosting company for about a year running 2 virtual servers. They are simply taking up too much room so if anyone wants to teach themselves how proper servers go together, learn enterprise systems management software (in this case Dell OpenManage), needs a testbed for playing with server virtualisation (VMWare ESX, XenEnterprise etc work on all of these) or mess around with Active Directory etc on a budget then make me an offer.

This ad is for:

4 x Dell PowerEdge 2400s in good working condition

This is really the next step up from the 1400SC in my other for sale ad. It's a larger case which can be either rackmounted (6U) or stood on its end as a large tower (pedestal) server.

Server 1:

2x1GHZ PIII Slot CPUs
512MB PC133 ECC RAM in 1x512MB DIMM
Dell PERC 2/Si onboard SCSI RAID, 2 channel, 256MB battery backed cache. This is enabled via a RAID KEY which is installed on the motherboard.
4 drive hotswap bay in the front of the server, each drive with power, activity and failure lights. This is proper enterprise RAID, not software or BIOS stuff.
2x9.1GB Ultra160 SCA drives in a RAID1 Mirror
2x73GB Ultra160 SCA drives in a RAID1 Mirror
Single PSU
The usual onboard stuff for a server, 100mbit Intel NIC, USB1 ports, PS/2 ports, ATI Rage graphics.

BIOS:

Booted VMWare ESX:

Server 2:

2x1GHZ PIII Slot CPUs
1GB PC133 ECC RAM in 4x256MB DIMMs
Dell PERC 2/Si onboard SCSI RAID, 2 channel, 64MB battery backed cache. This is enabled via a RAID KEY which is installed on the motherboard.
6 drive hotswap bay in the front of the server, each drive with power, activity and failure lights. This is proper enterprise RAID, not software or BIOS stuff.
2x9.1GB Ultra160 SCA drives in a RAID5 Mirror
4x36GB Ultra160 SCA drives in a RAID5 Mirror
Single PSU
The usual onboard stuff for a server, 100mbit Intel NIC, USB1 ports, PS/2 ports, ATI Rage graphics.
Additional 100MBit PCI NIC

Booted VMWare ESX:

Server 3:

2x667MHz PIII Slot CPUs
768MB PC133 ECC RAM in 3x256MB DIMMs
Doesnt have the RAID KEY the above 2 servers have, so the onboard SCSI controllers are not RAID enabled.
6 drive hotswap bay in the front of the server, each drive with power, activity and failure lights.
1x36GB Ultra160 SCA drive
Dual Hotswap PSU
The usual onboard stuff for a server, 100mbit Intel NIC, USB1 ports, PS/2 ports, ATI Rage graphics.

POSTs fine through the BIOS but doesn't boot, I've no idea what's on the drive but I guess it's not bootable:

Server 4:

Single 600MHz PIII
512MB PC133 ECC in 2x256 DIMMs
6 drive hotswap bay in the front of the server, each drive with power, activity and failure lights.
1x9.1GB Ultra160 SCA drives as a standalone drive
2x9.1GB Ultra160 SCA drives in a RAID1 mirror
Single PSU
The usual onboard stuff for a server, 100mbit Intel NIC, USB1 ports, PS/2 ports, ATI Rage graphics.
SCSI ZIP100 drive
Additional PCI NIC
56k PCI modem!!!

Goes through the BIOS fine:

Also included:
5x36GB Ultra160 SCA drives in Dell hotswap caddies

I put these into Server 2, to make sure they all span up and verified OK:

Twin gigabit Intel PRO/1000 on a 64-bit PCIX card. Again, enterprise grade stuff, not the kind of gigabit ports you get built into a desktop PC's motherboard. This card has its own CPU and does offload with the right drivers, as well as supporting LACP bonding/trunking.

See http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/sigu/ for more info on these servers.

Or, to put this in a different way
3 x PowerEdge 2400 chassis, motherboard, 6 drive SCA backplane, single PSU
1 x PowerEdge 2400 chassis, motherboard, 4 drive SCA backplane, dual PSU

3 x PE2400 RAID kit (RAID key + RAID DIMM) to convert above motherboards to LSI Logic hardware RAID

4 x 1GHz P3 Slot CPUs
2 x 667MHz P3 Slot CPUs
1 x 600MHz P3 Slot CPU

1 x 512MB PC133 ECC DIMM
9 x 256MB PC133 ECC DIMMs

7 x 9.1GB Ultra160 SCA drives in Dell hotswap caddys
10 x 36GB Ultra160 SCA drives in Dell hotswap caddys (possibly 2 dead)
2 x 73GB Ultra160 SCA drives in Dell hotswap caddys

2 x 100MBit PCI NICs
1 x Twin 1000MBit Intel server NIC (PCI-X)
1 x 56K PCI modem
1 x SCSI Zip100 Drive

I'd be looking at £100 collected for all 4 of the 2400 servers, the Intel NIC and the 5 spare SCA drives, but I am open to offers!!
