inner track rod end question
inner track rod end question
how much play should the inner track rod end have?
when i fitted my outer track rod ends i noticed that i could move the inner ones roughly just less than 1/4 of a turn by hand each way, this cant be right surely.
i think the knocking noise is being caused by this as it is only when i turn it makes a noise and when i brake and acclerate not all the time but prob 80% of it,and its the only thing that has that side lateral and forward and back movement
you should be able to turn them a full 360deg as well as up and down if they are not connected to the outer end, they are a spherical ball joint and they need to move in all directions.

Unless the lock plate has loosened and the actual screw in part is loose. hold the wheel in the straight ahead position and LIGHTLY rock steering wheel, you will see and feel the movement if loose in the joint, You would need to pull the rack boot off that end to actually see,
ok cheers phil,at the moment i can still twist it when the inner one while connected to the outer end,so over the weekend ill try and get the boot off and have a look
cheers
thats next on the check list then its down to see you to get my spc camber bolts fitted and geo reset
also the knocking occurs at standstill with a side to side steering movement when on almost full lock 1 side
