2tongues they will play the video back so you can see your error, if you still think you are innocent then yes contest away, normally once you see your error on video you know your guilty - the video does not lie.

I like this idea because minor offences can be dealt with by the road side, not dragging it through the courts. Courts = points, on the spot fine = a small fine no points.

I know this but the "used and abused" bit is when it comes to the statement made in the article about, "serious offenders will be spot fined but the carefull driver who has a momentary lapse will be reminded of how to drive, making the safe drivers safer"

This is what will get abused,........I drive safely (haha probably not but for example sake) and one morning i pull out of a junction a bit to far to see down the road causing a car to take avoiding action, but nothing major.

By the new rules the office that caught me doing that should play the tape, advise me what i did wrong, how i could improve, and let me on my way,..................or is he going to do what alot of the officers do when they catch you 5mph over the limit and spot fine me forcing me to contest it?

i know most of the coppers are good and fair, but bad apples exist everywhere, its these that worry me

It's still legal to undertake on a two laner, and even though there are multiple lanes on a freeway, people can undertake whilst overtaking i.e. cars on both sides of you, so your point isn't valid.

Turning right on a red light also makes sense but where it is considered dangerous it's controlled by right turn lights so the right turn on red isn't applicable everywhere.

With regard to your jibe at Yanks and roundabouts, I'd like to see how the average Brit would cope with the Yank equivalent, their 'four way give way' where everyone has to stop before giving priority to the first vehicle that stopped. My guess is that such courtesy would not exist, which is probably why roundabouts are necessary here. :mellow:

Tango - I think you would find all the brits would sit and probably let the car on the right go first and just use that system, if all cars there are brits, it would work,

if it were a mixture of yanks and brits then no

I have spent a fair amount of time driving in the US over the last few years and have to agree with Tango that undertaking causes no real issues over there so no idea why it's seen as such a big crime over here. Obviously it leads to pretty much no lane discipline whatsoever but that's the same over here so there's no difference (although lately I have seen more and more signs over there saying to keep right so I'm not sure if it's something they're trying to change)

They do seem to be getting the hang of roundabouts as they are increasing in prevalence - but yeah the 4 way stop can be a bit confusing! I was never really bothered by them, but do think they are quite stupid in comparison to the roundabout as they bring traffic to a complete halt whereas roundabouts can keep things moving to a certain extent.

When I was there last month managed to get myself pulled over for doing let's just say a "little" over the 65mph limit - had pretty much resigned to the fact I would get an on the spot fine as that's the way I've heard they generally deal with foreigners so was nice to just be let off with a warning - in actuality it worked as following that I did slow down a bit Smile
