granted however the BRZ/GT86 isn't a cheap city run around lol

To the untrained eye those are 3 different cars, take the badges off the 86 and BRZ and you'd struggle to tell which is which.

I actually think the aygo/c1/107 look less similar than these two do:

GM sharing the F-Body with Pontiac
VW and Ford sharing the Sharan
VW and Audi sharing everything (well almost)
VW and Skoda etc
Subaru and Saab (US only)
This is nothing new in the industry, the Toyota will sell more because they have the sales network over Subaru - in Europe in the US the Scion will not sell they don't appreciate the finesse of cars that turn corners quickly - brute force is still the basic requirement out there.
