Im pretty sure i have a 19mm deep socket in my halfords set. Ill have to pick up a crush washer, they should have 1 in stock, plus i need a sump plug washer.
I wont loose any coolant, as there is none in the car!
Well the cars back on the road finally. what a fun bank holiday weekend it was. It started off quite badly, as i found out on friday that my replacement calipers hadn't even been posted out, so i was expecting not to have the car ready at all.
Even so i cracked on with the outstanding list. First up was a trip to toyota to collect my ordered parts. £161 on the original order, but while i was there i also grabbed a set of plugs, 11 quid each, although i did blag a 15% discount by saying i was a member of imoc.
Back at home i started by fitting the altenator tensioner and getting that working again. Pretty simple really, but access was awful, so most of it was done by feel. Next up was to refit the throttlebody, new temp sensor, again easy enough. I then went ahead and filled up with coolant. Despite looking like an awkward job it was pretty easy going. The bleed pipe coming from the heater matrix was showing signs of a lot of air, but a bit of sucking on the pipe to draw out the air had that sorted pretty quickly.
Rabster turned up after work bringing with him a tap and die set. This allowed me to fix up the distributor with the snapped bolt. A quick drill out and run a tap through it and that was sorted. I changed over the plugs, gave all the leads a clean, fitted the dizzy, along with a new rotor arm, dizzy cap and new seals and bolts.
I now had the engine back together again and ready to run. I grabbed out my timing light and checked the timing was set properly before tightening up the dizzy. All good, with a warm engine it was holding 10deg BTDC nicely.
Next up was to get the front end back together again. When removing the front bumper i snapped a couple of the bolts holding the top edge underneath the headlights. I decided that these didnt really need to be fixed, as there are plenty of other fixings in that area.
I cut up a bit of mesh to fit in the bumper to protect my new rad. This was simply screwed into the back of the moulded vanes with a couple of self tappers. I gave it a quick spray of black paint to make it a bit less obvious.
Before fitting the bumper i made up some simple brackets to fit my replacement foglights in the same position as standard. These were just a bit of steel bar with a few holes drilled in them. I cut the old wiring plugs off the standard foglights, and soldered them onto the new fogs, so they would be plug and play.
Once these were fitted up i got the bumper back on the car. That was fun trying to remember where the multitude of bolts screws and nuts went. As i mentioned earlier, i snapped the studs on the side trims. These hold the sides of the bumper in place, so it was vital i got them fixed. I simply cut off the remaining stud, drilled a hole into the trim, and araldited a couple of new studs (old bolts with the head cut off) into place. Job jobbed.
Then it was a simple case of refitting all the sidelights and headlights and it was all back together - with the exception of the rear calipers.
Between us, me and my dad attacked the old calipers armed with a large club hammer, wd40 and some brute force. Eventually we managed to seperate the calipers and brackets. After a bit of cleaning up and a regrease they were usable again. We didnt have a proper rewind tool, and as it was now about 5pm on bank holiday monday, we had a problem. As the calipers are only a temporary measure until i get the replacements sorted, we resoted to a bit of ghetto rewinding of the piston - a set of grips and some more brute force. This ended up chewing up the ends of the pistons a bit and tearing the seal, but i wasnt really bothered, they will be in the bin soon.
After getting the calipers sorted, i bolted them up, and then with a bleed of the brakes the car was all back together finally. I bolted on the wheels and dropped it back down for the first time in 3 weeks.
Before the car went into the garage, it sat on the street for a few days, which was just after the volcano had gone pop, so the car had a nice covering of ash, so the first job was to get the car out and give it a quick wash. I jet washed it off first, then sprayed it with shampoo, then jet washed that off. A quick chamois off was good enough for now.
The test drive was a success, everything working as it should. The brake pedal is a bit soft, but at some point next week i will be changing the calipers so i will rebleed the system.

locking wheel nuts - set of 5 to suit is200 rims
tap and die set - needed one for ages
I cant decide whether to fit the is200 rims before japfest, as they do need refurbing, or stick with the 18" till afterwards.
I also went out and bought some cleaning products:
meguirs clay bar kit
t-cut colour fast dark green
application pad
microfibre drying cloth
lambswool mitt
soft polishing cloth
Hopefully i will get a chance to use some of it next week before japfest. I want to give the car a good clean, give it a claying, spend a few hours t-cutting it to remove some scrathes. I also have some meguirs NXT wax for when i finish the first effort. I think after japfest i may have to go and see lexusboy and borrow his g220 to give it a going over

If you find after continued bleeding that your pedal is still a bit soft, follow the BGB procedure for readjusting the pedal - this cured my braking problem after years of bleeding, replacement calipers, master cylinders, etc etc.
