Rust !
Rust !
parthiban As long as it's been regularly serviced using original Lexus/Toyota parts then that should be fine, it doesn't need to be serviced at Lexus to maintain the warranty.Yeah, that's my understanding. The rust is right by the windscreen. And thankfully my screen does appear to have the original windscreen, because it's labelled "Toyota" (like my windows, not "Lexus", it's an early car), so I don't see how they can say the "wrong" parts were used so it's not covered. At least that's what I'm hoping ! Feeling quite nervous about it actually.
Mr Mole Well you have got the time on your hands so do tell all :cursing:

Just got back from Lexus. They didn't ask me any questions whatsoever about service history etc.
They look lots of pics and are sending it off for consideration for a warranty claim.
The body shop guy who inspected it (same guy who coordinated getting my recent bodywork repair done) said that this can happen if the windscreen is replaced and any damage done from cutting the old screen out isn't repaired properly.
However, I did point out that the windscreen said "Toyota" just like my other windows (mine is an early car and hadn't got to the stage where the glass said "Lexus"), so it must have been an early screen or original. Plus the windscreen has the "Lexus GB" glass marking serial number on it (remember, when there was a thing about getting all your glass marked to supposedly deter theft ?), so it to all intents and purposes looked like the factory screen. Hopefully that will help my case.
Now just need to wait and see what happens. He warned me it could take a few weeks.
Will put up some pics. I can't believe I never spotted this before. I spotted it together with Davros at the BBQ on Sunday. Think it was the angle that we were looking at. Yes, well worth checking.
ok, pics.
So here's the area of the car we're looking at (though the problem is on both sides). It's the bit of the A-pillar that butts up to the windscreen rubber seal. Looks fine from a distance.
Have a look close-up though !
The problem is there in about five or six places between the two pillars
It's a Toyota OEM windscreen (all my original windows say Toyota too, unlike later cars) - sorry, pic a bit fuzzy :
This is what I meant about the glass security marking. Luckily the windscreen is still marked too, which I think helps my case in showing that it's probably the original factory screen :
Quick update - my Lexus dealer just rang me to tell them that the Lexus GB warranty department have said this doesn't fall under the anti-corrosion warranty, but didn't give any explanation as to why. My dealer suggested that I speak to Lexus Customer Relations about it, so I'll be doing that, since I don't see why it wouldn't be covered.
I'll be checking my car as well- mines a late 2000 model though (and all the glass is marked Lexus not Toyota).
Just thinking out loud here but could whatever you add to the windscreen washer bottle possibly help this as you've got the wipers constantly throwing **** to that area when they're used, rain water, surface water and then whatever you've got added when you use the washer nozzles?
Possibly but as long as it's not got some form of acid in it it shouldn't really eat into the paint should it?
Yeah I don't really see how the screen wash can be a get-out either.
Lexus have referred me back to the dealer, this time to someone different to go through the coverage of the anti-corrosion warranty. So I'm hoping that will be useful. Also hoping there's not a standard exclusion of "windscreen surround" or similar. Other than that, I don't see how they can say it's not covered, given that it looks like the original windscreen.
good luck to you mate, im sure there will eventually give up and fix it for ya but it will take time !
