Lexus IS200 Mods--TTE Supercharger, Tein Superstreet Coilovers & EDFC, 6000K HID Lights, HKS Silent High Power Exhaust, DBA Front Discs, Kenwood DNX9240 Head Unit, 19" Rims, TRD Kit, FIGS Bonnet Struts, Greddy Pillar Pod & Defi Gauges, TTE Red ARBS . And Been To WIM twice
It has also had a recall for its petrol tank , something about some part ( maybe exhaust ) getting hot and melting the plastic fuel tank

Just have a good look around them as I found the build quality not to be up to the scratch of other Japanese cars. have a good look at the Paint especially on the boot, make sure its not rusting. Try everything electrical. If its fitted with a Bose unit they are expensive to repair.
Other than that, its just the usual sort of things to watch out for on a car, so just have a good look and test drive.
Have you thought of posting on the RX-8 Owners Club, they are normally pretty good when it comes to these sort of questions (unless they go mad at you for not searching :lol

Make sure its a clean starter, if its got low compression it will sound like its struggling to start, I had one and got rid as it was about to die, I was quoted a new engine at £5.5k, so not cheap, and this is a common killer.

i have a 231ps 57 plate rx8,i listened to all the advice before and after i bought it and i became a bit paranoid,about fuel and oil,i use to own a 6 sport,2.3 and it doesnt use anymore fuel as that,except when i go a bit lairy with the loud pedal,and apart from check the oil every 2nd fill up,as long as it has been looked after andhas a full history enjoy,but be warned they do like to be revvvvvvved,9500 red line can get very addictivemoke:
