I'm gonna try some of this seafoam stuff (available on eBay). All of the IS300 owners across the pond are raving about how good it is, and you also get to smoke out the entire street when you run it too :p

remember though mate our fuel is better/cleaner than theirs!!their fuel is 91 octain and our min octain is 95...
run a few tanks of vpower through her thatll do the same job..

also i could pour brake cleaner in to the intake and it will smoke like that...just coz it smokes doesnt mean its doing anything most likely its just burning it off and thats it!!

Yeah true on the vpower front, though I never thought that octane rating had any bearing on how clean the fuel is? Only its resistance to ignition? I would still imagine that running 99RON fuel that doesn't include additives (or little additive) would still not be sufficient for cleaning out carbon deposits etc..

I could be wrong, but I think the benefit of seafoam over standard fuel additives is that it is fed to the car through the brake booster vacuum tube, possibly getting to the areas that fuel cant?

Anyway, I'm still on a steep upward learning curve as far as cars are concerned, so I could be very wrong Big Grin

(unable to edit):

I guess also for those who have bought their cars with 50,60,100k on the clock already, the car could have been subject to years of cheap and nasty fuel. Going the injector cleaner route could be a cheaper and quicker way to clean out things rather than running several tanks of fuel with additives?

lower the octain the lower the burn temp theirfor leaving small carbon diposits
higher the octain the hotter the burn the hotter the burn the less chance of any deposits and if their is any the hotter temp will burn it off...
i have been a tec for 16 years and seen lots of stuff claiming we can clean this do that give you 000000more bhp and 00000 more mpg short answer its p00p
also didnt say octain afects how clean the fuel is.........i said it was cleaner and we use a higher octain..

also removing carbon on a 100k enginge could be bad!!the carbon could be sealing up cracks on valve seats, heads, stopping oil leaks etc....

noob reply ahoy:

I was always under the impression that the lower octane, the slower the fuel burned thus increasing temperatures inside the engine, rather than visa versa? This is based on my understanding that higher octane fuel reduces engine knock by burning in a more controlled manner?

Also if we're talking about using additives on high mileage engines, would that also not include fuel? E.g, if you bought a car that had run on crapola fuel all its life, its better to continue with that rather than running vpower for example?

(this isn't me being argumentative btw, just trying to get true facts straight in my head so I can bring the correct answer to others in future and have the answers that I myself would have asked.)

Shell V-Power: New formulation for powerful cleaning
New formulation Shell V-Power contains powerful cleaning agents, designed to prevent the formation of power-robbing deposits that can impact on the responsiveness and efficiency of your engine.

Shell V-Power is formulated to help remove existing deposits that other fuels may have left behind, which can help new engines run smoothly for longer, and can help rejuvenate older engines – whatever car you drive.
