As an athlete I can say that even getting to english schools in the first place is definitely something to be proud of, and to make the final is very good going, as you rightly said even coming last still means you are 8th in the country, as the only people faster were in the same race!

I wasn't really into my athletics properly in school so never participated in (or even heard of) english school untill after I left unfortunately. So you beat me on that one Wink

And I know the feeling...no discrimination at all, but lets be honest, pretty much every high level sprinter you come up against will be black. It's been scientifically proven that black people naturally have more fast twitch muscle fibres and thus make better sprinters. I would say I'm pretty average build, average height. My physique doesn't imediately shout sprinter at you, and I'm only 11.2 stone which for a sprinter is pretty light!

4x100 is another of my regular events, I'm normally the 2nd leg runner just purely because it's the longest leg and I'm the fastest in the squad.

And if I REALLY have to, I sometimes do a 4x400 which I ran a split time of 49.4 for my leg last weekend. Might have a go at doing an actual 400m to see if I can set a similar official time because that was pretty good considering I ran the 4x100 15mins earlier!

Little update to this...

I ran at an open competition at Watford on Wednesday and got some fairly good times.

11.09 in the 100m (start was overly cautious after 3 false starts by other athletes) should have been sub 11 seconds really.

But then got a good clean start first time round in the 200m and ran a personal best of 21.75 which now puts me 18th in the UK for that event.

Pretty chuffed with that Smile

EDIT: The most impressive part on a personal level, is that it took me until September last year to run my old PB of 21.84. But I've already broken that and it's only June!

Latest update for the Athletics side of my life...

The reason I couldn't come to Jap Show was because unfortunately it clashed with the UK U23 Championships/World Trials which I was competing in.

I've got qualifying times for it the last 2 years but for one reason or another ended up not running, so as it's my last year in U23 I really wanted to do it.

I didn't do the 100m yesterday though as I managed to knock a steel I-Beam onto my foot at work on Wednesday, and as the 200m is my better event I decided to rest and save myself for that today.

I turned up expecting to get my ass kicked in the first round, as although I'm 18th in the UK, the other 17 above me could have potentially been there. But I ended up winning my heat in 21.89 (my best is 21.75, so nothing spectacular)

It was first 2 from each heat, plus the next 2 fastest to qualify, so I got through.

In the semi-final it took 4 attempts to start the race! First time a guys blocks slipped, second time someone false started and the third time the starters microphone packed up!

I came 5th out of 7 in my race, which is what I was expecting really. But I also ran a massive PB of 21.47 in that race! So that more than makes up for the position.

Unfortunately, because of the qualification rules for the final I didn't get through (first 3 from each of the 2 semi finals and then the next 2 slowest) Which screwed me out of a place in the final because I actually ran faster than the people who came 2nd and 3rd in the other semi, but because of my position in my race I didn't get through.

But at least I can say I went there, and the PB was pretty impressive. So not a bad day out really. And I also saw a guy called Adam Gemili (make a note of that name guys!) who at only 18 has the worlds fastest junior 100m time, 10.08 (also the fastest time in the UK out of any age group) and then today he ran 20.61 into a headwind in the 200m, making him the worlds fastest junior in that too!

Been a while since I updated this, but as indoor season has started now I've got some stuff to put in here.

I did an inter counties match in September where I came 4th in the UK for the 200m. I took the first run easy as I potentially had 3 runs to do if I made the final, still quick enough to make the semi though which I ran a PB of 21.43 in (down from 21.47). And then while coming 4th in the final I lowered it again to 21.39.

I've run at 2 competitions so far this year, both indoors.

In the first one I reduced my 60m time from 7.25 to 7.19. I then ran again today and brought it down to 7.13, and then in my second race reduced it even further to 7.10

Which now means my PBs stand at:

60m - 7.10
100m - 10.90
200m - 21.39
400m - 49.19

I also ran a 200m indoor last weekend in 22.19 seconds which isn't anything to shout about, but the indoor tracks are horrible to run on (steep banked corners and they slope up/down before/after the corners too, so you can't run properly flat out on them)

But it was still the fastest time of the day and also enough to put me at the top of the 2013 UK rankings for 200m...for now. lol

And in other news, because of the 200m time I ran last year I've been invited to the 2013 British Athletics European Trials and UK Championships which are being held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield on the weekend of 9th & 10th Feb, so I'll be mixing with the likes of Jess Ennis, Holly Bleasdale and Dwain Chambers in the warm up area. Seriously impressive times there mate!

Used to do athletics myself when I was younger, track running 800m & 1500m being my events. But X-country was my speciality! Still got hoards of medals in the attic.

I know what you mean about indoor tracks! Ran at kelvin hall in Glasgow a few times indoor.

Anyhow keep up the good work dude!

Thanks guys Smile

Well my aim is to just get really good at it, my targets are just getting new PBs and to get the qualifying times for these bigger competitions like I've been getting invited to recently.
