Remember that rev1-2 hotpipes and rev3+ hotpipes are different! Rev3 has a takeoff for the aircon idle up underneath the recirc valve and the length of the pipe is different (the hose that goes from the hotpipe to the intercooler is a different length as well). There's also something different about the brackets that bolt them to the head I think.

WRT the downpipe, it's all about smoothing exhaust flow. The stock turbo elbow + cat doesn't flow very well - it's very wide to accommodate a full cat in such a small space and when you gut the cat you're left with a huge step inside where it used to be. However exhaust flow isn't so important on turbo motors as the gasses are all turbulent after they've been past the compressor wheel and forced induction engines don't rely so much on exhaust scavenging/pulsing like N/A engines do. So basically like Mikey said, not much to gain from it Smile Weight loss is the only thing I can think of?
