Sounds like low battery. Holding to the head can sometimes work, strangely! Also pointing directly at the receiver in the dash from close range can help too. Though as others have said, the alarm should not last long once the key is in the ignition and turned to "On" (with or without starting the engine.)
It is also possible that the key has forgotten it's coding, as this can happen, in rare cases. This helpful guide should help you reprogramme it if that is the case. I suggest you try this if a new battery does not solve it.
The 3 button is a master key, the grey one is a slave or valet key...
Got to work last night, armed with a new battery. And that didn't work.
Turning the key with the alarm going off, after about 5-10 seconds the alarm made a very weird noise and then shut off.
So I am stuck with a second Is200 with the remote central locking working.
Granted I should have probably got another key cut and programmed. But started to fall out with the car big time. With the heater problems, it's got rust spots starting to show on the cills, it needs new brakes all round as well as tax and Mot in next two weeks. Think I might start having a look around for something new.
