steviewevie Renault have surely got to be in big, big trouble ! Mclaren lost all their constructors points and got an enormous fine, so what's going to happen Renault for something even worse ?

I think it all depends on how far Renault can convince everyone that it was just between Briatore, Symonds and Piquet. They're moving in the right direction by sacking them, dropping the lawsuit and not fighting the allegations.

By doing this they're trying to claim that Renault as a whole had nothing to do with it.............if successful they'll probably get away with a punishment similar to McLaren with maybe a bit on top (bigger fine, a few race bans, etc)

If they can't convince them of that though, I can't say any other outcome than them getting permanently kicked out of the sport.

There's a transcript of an interview between an FIA official and Pat Symonds of Renault here. The questions that Pat Symonds refuses to answer are quite telling !

How some journalists are seeing it, not good for F1 ...

The worst act of cheating in the history of sport

dan_harris absolute stupidity on behalf of all parties

I agree, no idea how they thought they were going to keep this under wraps too.........especially when they weren't going to keep Piquet.

I know retrospect is a great thing, but this was just so idiotic!

To be honest, i think Renault may just leave the sport all together. If they get hit with a big fine in times like these, and dont look like theyre going to win anything back from it, then they will see it as a loss and leave the sport. They may return in a later date i dont know.

But i think its all fixed now. I just cant see how things happen a lot of the time. Hamilton crashing on the last lap.. Maybe a mistake, but why was he pushing that hard so late in the race. He had to catch 1.5 seconds AND overtake button to get the second place, so why not just hold back?

etc etc

That's a bit of a stretch mate, no idea why hamilton crashed - one of the things I don't like about him is he doesn't use his brain!

Chasing down button was a lost cause that late in the race so someone as good as him should have realised and settled for third. Having said that it wasn't fixed, he was simply pushing hard, got one wheel on the astro and that was the end of that.

Can't even imagine how that could be a fix, who could it possibly benefit Lewis being in the race or not (unless we're back to everything being a Ferrari conspiracy, in which case it would be them trying to maintain their third place in the constructors.......:laughSmile

Aye. Smile. That was a bad bad example. But something just doesnt seem right. It doesnt seem competative anymore. Button was a mile infront after the first 7 races, but now all of a sudden hes only scraping 1-2 points. People blame it on the updates to car etc etc. But maybe they were told to hold back to make it closer, to attract more viewers and crowds. Nobody would watch if they knew who would win after race 9.

During the season things usually change a lot in terms of competitiveness. Often one team starts off the season well, people start saying they'll run away with the championship, but it's never that simple, because other teams catch up (if your car isn't performing well and you manage to figure out what's wrong with it, it's much much easier to make it a lot faster than the guys who already have a car that's doing well). This has happened loads of times before.

Brawn started off very well indeed and their car was doing brilliantly, but remember that the big boys spend a fortune on their wind tunnels, computer simulations etc, so Mclaren at al have sorted their cars a lot better and are now more competitive.
