New Ford Focus RS500 :-)
New Ford Focus RS500 :-)
I think Ford have such a good system in their two wheel drive they want to keep the cost down and a four wheel drive system this would add a few thousand pounds to the cost of the car and would Ford find so many buyers with a car going over £30,000
Ford have a great set up for four wheel drive systems having owned Land Rover and Range Rover and the current Couger model's

The original quattro system (in the original audi quattro) was, the current ones aren't though. They're the same system as used in some saabs (and possibly volvo thinking about it), made by a company called Haldex. A little publicised fact about hadlex 4wd is that it suffers from epic transmission loss, up to 25% in some cases!
Quite a few of the lower spec VAG 4wds use the Haldex system in the reverse to how you would expect it to be, i.e. FWD most of the time except when RWD is required. Not sure which way round the Veyron uses it.
Anyway that's all a bit off topic!
Edit: Don't confuse the 4wd on the R8 with Quattro btw, they're not the same. The R8 to my knowledge does not use a Haldex transmission. They are mostly used in cars with transverse engines (with the obvious exception of the Veyron).
Focus RS upgrade launched as RS500 sell out

BRENTWOOD, England – All 101 Focus RS500 models allocated to British drivers have been snapped up within days of launch.
Ford is responding to the intense customer demand with an officially-approved Focus RS performance upgrade kit.
The kit allows Focus RS owners to give their ‘regular’ 305PS superhatch an extra 45PS and 20Nm of torque.
This means motorists who could not secure one of Ford’s limited-edition, matt black RS500s to upgrade any latest-generation RS to match the power – if not the exclusivity – of the fastest-ever Focus road car.
Developed by Ford Team RS, in partnership with Mountune Performance (MP), the MP350 RS upgrade will be launched through selected Ford dealers across the UK.
Comprising a larger intercooler and air filter box, larger diameter exhaust downpipe and a higher-capacity fuel pump, along with uprated software calibration, it remains the only officially-approved Focus RS upgrade package.
Mark Simpson, Ford Britain marketing director, said: “Focus RS500 has raised the Ford performance bar – it’s the fastest-selling model in Ford’s UK history, with five times more customers than we had cars for. The MP350 kit has been developed to meet some of this additional demand and allow enthusiasts with cars in standard tune to enjoy even greater performance, without endangering their warranty. If you couldn’t get an RS500, which sold out within seven days, this is the next best thing.”
Following the rush for an exclusive RS500 in the last days of March, Ford is allocating the UK's 101 right-hand drive versions to dealerships in proportion with their share of overall Focus RS sales.
The MP350 RS upgrade kit is £1,995, including VAT. Further details are at http://www.mountuneperformance.com
Just looked into buying one of these and Switzerland has been allocated 50. The regular RS is SFR 53,900 and the RS500 is SFR 70,000 anyone care to explain what the additional SFR 16,100 (GBP 10,000) has been spent on?
