MR2 GTi-16
yes mate ours was an auto, but new mr2 is well good, got the roadtser with the tiptronic gearbox
As far as I am aware the only difference in steering columns is that some have tilt & rake and others only have tilt controls. They are even the same power steering to non power steering models.
I like the SMG box in the MK3, shame it's slower 0-60 than the 5 speed as it has to make an extra gearchange to get there!
Just got home and the caliper repair kit is here waiting for me. Unfortunately i cant get the car in the garage tonight, as the old man will be barrowing sand through there tomorrow.
Car will go in the garage saturday and i will strip the front brakes down. Whilst its there i also intent to do a service; oil, filter, aux belts, plugs and possibly leads. I can also take a look at the cold start issues as well.
Roll on saturday. Tonight im going to have a play with the stereo, ill report back in a couple of hours
Right update time.
I started with the stereo. For some reason the unit fitted didnt turn on. The fuse seemed to have power, so it was down to removing it to find out what was going on behind. Im glad i did. the state of the wiring was shocking, it must have been installed by a one handed monkey.
The standard toyota connector is not the common iso found on stereos, so there was an adaptor fitted inline. Rather than just connect to an iso loom in a sensible way, the adaptor had rca plugs on it to plug into the stereos pre outs. I am guessing this is because the car has standard amps fitted and can only handle the low voltage pre outs from an aftermarket stereo, not the full amplified output.
Instead of using the ground wire on the adaptor lead, the ground had been taken to one of the bolts holding the stereo in place. Also there was a scotch lock between the red and yellow power feeds. Guess thats where the power drain was then, no ignition live, just permanant live feeds.
After messing around with the wiring i managed to get the buttons on the head unit to light up, but nothing else, oh well in the bin it goes. I have now ripped all traces of the headunit from the car, and i will be fitting my single din alpine unit. I have to get the single din adaptor first, so that will wait until the weekend.
The pictures show the pitiful state of things in there

Nice wiring - the chunky orange wire you can see is the ground
Standard toyota plug
Adaptor loom
So what with it being fairly unsucsessfl on the stereo front i thought i would do something productive
