Interesting to read Briatore's "outrage" at being accused of race-fixing, at the time he was denying it, and himself accusing the Piquet family of blackmail. Says a lot about his character, I guess (as opposed to Pat Symonds who simply refused to answer questions where he would incriminate himself).

2tongues Telemetry tells the story. All they have to prove is "was the driver told to crash" - then it is all over for Renault.
I don't think they even have to prove it, because Renault aren't denying it.

Yep Piquet and Symonds were both granted immunity, seems they wanted to go after Briatore.........
But still Piquet is completely unemployable now, can't imagine anyone getting him on board unless he brought serious financial backing.

Nelson Piquet arrives at the hearing in Paris on Monday
Renault have been given a two-year suspended ban for their role in fixing last year's Singapore Grand Prix.
The team were called before governing body the FIA to answer charges they had asked driver Nelson Piquet Jr to crash to help team-mate Fernando Alonso win.
Former team boss Flavio Briatore has been banned from FIA sanctioned events for an unlimited period.
Renault's ex-engineering director Pat Symonds has also been excluded from F1 for five years.
The plan to deliberately crash was their idea, Piquet told the FIA.
Briatore and Symonds parted company with Renault last week at the same time as the French car giant said they would not contest the charges.

It does seem a little odd, but I imagine they have conclusive evidence that it was just between Briatore, Symonds and Piquet and that no one else at all was even remotely involved.
I guess the difference was that Renault was not a front running team and this didn't really affect the championship.
In contrast, "Spygate" coincided perfectly with McLaren's sudden jump forward in performance, so it would be almost impossible to work out exactly how much they benefitted from the stolen Ferrari secrets.
Therefore by cheating they would have won the constructors title and several millions in prize money and I think that was why they came down so hard on McLaren.
In any case I do agree with you though, understand why the punishment could be lighter for Renault, but this seems too light, they should have at least got a whopping fine to go with the suspended ban.
