Where do you currently have your contacts? Outlook?
Syncing with the PC should be pretty straightforward in terms of music, are you setting the phone to "mass transfer" mode when you connect it?

syncing with PC should be just plug it in and woop woop all done......not set the phone to anything other than what it was set at "HTC Sync"

contacts where on phones b uilt in memory, it wouldnt transfer them to the SD card or the SIM, the guy in the shop was trying for 20 minutes befor ehe gave up, dodgy handset i reckon

Then when you got the new phone, just log into your google account and it'll all drop into the new phone - that really is one of the best parts about android.
Does HTC sync sync music? I don't have an HTC so not really sure, either way the Samsung version can handle music but I'd never use it for it as its rubbish, I just use winamp but doubletwist is a good one too (they are calling themselves the iTunes for android)

If they were on the phone why didn't you just sync it to a google account (which should have been automatic anyway)?
Then when you got the new phone, just log into your google account and it'll all drop into the new phone - that really is one of the best parts about android.

doesnt sync anything, laptop keeps telling me install of software failed, so at the minute im reduced to downloading via wifi from amazon which is costing me a small fortune,..per album!!

Erm not that technically advanced really lol, most ive done so far is link contacts to facebook so i have the pictures next to the contact name lol!

Setup a google account, then add the account to your phone so it syncs all your stuff - that way even if there's a problem with your phone it's all in the cloud.
Simply sign into your account on the new phone and it's all back on in a few seconds
