My new car
My new car
yea I carry my British licence, and leave the other one at home. As cars are insured and not drivers I just say its my brothers, or friends, they only want to see proof of insurance lol.
Well there are some plans being put together for this car - STS turbo kit is on the cards, talking to a company that fits them and has done for years, they look to be a very good system with little drawbacks, clearly a 5.7L engine needs a lot of air fed into it when N/A so a big tubby is needed, but a twin tubby set up is also available. An initial upgrade to a Garret turbo is recommended.
The STS kit will fit almost ANY car and here does not affect my insurance, here's a link: http://www.ststurbo.com/home
These rear mount kits have drawbacks, and advantages. Any power upgrade needs mapping by experts - and luckily in Arizona there is such a place. It is interesting that they recommend methanol injection - this really is a must for all FI systems.
Going to be a while before I fit one, but thought I would share the initial plans, probably just a basic 550bhp system, thats pretty much the limit before more serious mods are required.......... NOS is street legal and does not affect insurance in AZ, so that may be an option also.
Well back from North Carolina, and 1st thing on return was to try to start the Trans Am..........................
Expecting the worst, I.e. 1 month without starting and an unknown battery as we have only had her a month, and really only done short trips it was fingers crossed the big 5.7l V8 would turn over........
yea 1 turn of the key and she roared into life - no hesitation at all, just as though she had been used every day!! Not bad as these V8's take some power from the battery to turn.
So sitting in our garden just now (its 6.55am) shorts and t-shirt, enjoying the early morning sun and watching the humming birds feeding - deciding where to take the Trans Am today as a reward for starting on the button!!!!!
Cat back "Flow "aster 'zorst" fitting by my good self going on today!!
OK as most people know I am bringing this monster to the UK.
She arrives on the 27th Nov, and then about 1 month to get road legal. Main changes are lighting related for the MOT.
It is lucky she is as old as she is as 6 months newer and it would be down to the SVA people to be royally robbed - I have little intention of going through such a test.
The rule is simple a car that is 10 years old or more only has to pass a British MOT, newer cars need SVA or IVA testing depending if there is a type test on file already or not - it looks complex so I didn't really look into it that hard as I won't need to go through that process.
Rear indicators need to be Amber, this is the hardest bit as there was never a Euro spec Trans Am or Camaro after 1997 - although the light cluster is similar they are almost impossible to find and are UGLY and seriously expensive. So I have some ultra bright SMD's in Amber, they may be powerful enough to overcome the red tinting of the light cluster, bit like when black tint their lenses.
The next problem is the break light is also the indicator...... illegal in the UK, so the side lights will have to be modified to accept a 2nd lamp or change the lamp holder to a dual filament one and have side and break lights in 1 lamp - the 2nd option is my favourite so far as its an easy swap. Until I have it here I can't be 100% sure which is the best bet.
Reversing light on the OS will become a Fog light - its less then 1M from the floor so legal.
Rear red side markers are legal.
Front amber side marker will become a side indicator.
Front indicator left alone, apart from being the feed to the side indicator.
Need to have front side lights, taking the feed from the front amber side light and putting it onto a strip of SMD's should do - or use the front fogs as side lights to get through the MOT.
Headlight aim is wrong - I have been told that they "should" be adjustable if the same system as the Gen 3 was used, and they do look very similar so I may be lucky.
Front Numberplate............... Ugly things on a car that is not designed for one, so I have an electric flip away one that will hide under the front bumper when not needed (shows etc) works by remote control!!!
That's the initial work, I am sure there will be more things - the car is solid, rust free, all rubber bushes have been replaced by previous owner and I put new tyres on before we left.
Can't wait to get her over here.
I can't wait to see her, she looks awesome! Remind me to give you that number tomorrow
Will do!!
Yea will be fun!!!
