Jim if you get a Jag then make sure you buy a proper warranty mate or go to a main Dealer and purchase a years extended warranty because you will need it mate.
Dont let anyone tell you they are reliable and trouble free, if they were I would be out of a Job. nothing major goes wrong but always niggling little things that cost the earth and takes the car of the road the only time you want to use it like at weekends.

Lol, I'm a big fan of muscle cars though, so that doesn't help - was gutted when they cancelled the RHD version of the camaro.........

I think the Jag V8 is pretty bulletproof as it's been around for such a long time, but having said I think the hemi is quite reliable too as it's also been around forever and the rest of the car is all merc e-class so that's pretty tough too.

Tough choice as I love them both - depends how much of a priority space is, the Jag is quite cramped while the 300C is colossal.

LOL OK mate, I'll definitely factor that in with the cost then. With a privately sold Jag can I still get an extended warranty from Jaguar, or do I have to go to one of those companies you see on the TV adverts?

What are they like to work on? Are most of the issues something that a layman like me could fix once the right diagnosis had been made? I've got an XJR (2004) with 80k on my shortlist.

If I'm honest I'm pretty disappointed with my LS430 purchase. Maybe I just didn't pay enough attention when I bought the car, but so far I've had to fork out for new parking sensors, a new reversing camera (cheap one didnt work) and it also looks like I need a new gas strut now too.

Ah, now that I wasn't expecting. I though the Jag would be quite spacious even in the rear and none of the pictures I saw of the interiors made me think otherwise. How would you say it compares to the IS?

Jags have always been small on the inside and vast on the outside - bit like a reverse tardis. The 300C is huge because Americans have to fit in them.

totally worn out and broken, shouting 'Holy ****, WHAT A RIDE!'"

My partners dad has a 53 reg XJ6.

Do you like having ac, working electrics, no rust?

Then you won't like Jags then.

LOL, I've seen lots of stuff about other Jag's with rust problems, but not the XJR (so far).

I think a lot of it depends on how well you look after the car. For example, search LS30 rust and there's lots of pages about it. Even the best built cars can suffer from car cancer.

It's the electrics on it that are quite exciting. Satnav, rear tv screens, phone etc have all played up. It has full Jag service history. The warranty repairs list is substantially longer than the service history.

It's had three or four ac compressors now. It also has a protection detail every 12 months before winter and it's happily rusting away.

Just thought I'd give you the heads up about it.
