Almost there now, the light at the end of the tunnel is getting ever brighter.
Flatted it back to remove any dips or bumps, and then applied the final coat of resin today. Well impressed with how it's turned out, all that's needed once it's dry is to wet sand it to fully smooth the surface and key it. Which will then mean I can give it a coat of UV protecting lacquer to finish it off.
Here's the result of todays work...
It wasn't all plain sailing though, as when I first started it, the carbon cloth found it hard to stick to the underside of the centre bar due to the 180* fold. And if you look along the top of the centre bar in this picture, you'll see that it had wrinkled slightly along the top edge...
Which is why it's taken so long to do, as I had to resin, sand, resin, sand...etc. until it was perfectly flat. But as you'll also see from the final pics, I did a pretty good job of correcting that little hiccup if I do say so myself :whistling::thumbup:
Stunning job!
Fry-Up I still think you should spray the rest of it scarlatti red and sell it to me

Well having now got things arranged at the bodyshop, he's just waiting for me to take the bits over now. So I made the most of the sunshine this evening to finish the skirts off.
Because a previous owner has had the underside of the sills weather proofed, the tabs on the skirts don't sit in the groove properly. So originally I decided I was going to cut them off. But didnt like the idea of having massive flappy bits where I chopped them out.
So I slit them in strategic locations, heated them up and then flattened them. So I lose the tabs, but also retain the strength/shape of the underside.
My weapons of choice...
This tab has already been flattened, but it shows how I cut along the edges to allow it to fold flat...
How I kept the pressure on while the plastic re-set...
And here is a side view of the tab to show how flat it is now...
The final parts to finish off this project arrived today...anyone guess what I'm going to do?
