Its not a stupid question at all.
cause a supercharger is run by a belt theres two ways.
Make the pulley on the engine bigger, or the one on the supercharger smaller.
basically change the ratio so that instaed of say one turn of the engine to one turn of the charger its one turn of the engine to two turns of the charger.

Its like push bike bike gears. when your in a low gear your on the small gear at the pedals and the big one at the wheels so lots of spinning the pedals only moves the wheel a little.
whereas top gear your on the big gear at the pedals and the small one at the wheels so turn the pedal once spins the wheel a lot.
So the charger spins more, sucks more air in so gives more boost
