cat 1 alarms
cat 1 alarms
ok so my insurance has ripped me off and now to add insult to injury they insist i need to pay £x and have a cat1 alarm system.
not such an injustice tho as my alarm is now 15 years old and obviously dont work as good as it should.
my question tho is this.....
which gives best value for money???
which has best features to be added???
not overly bothered by brand name tbh as long as it works and has a few gimmicks that'll probly never be used lol
what can anyone reccomend???
Insurers said the same to me when I had my prelude, toad are a decent quality alarm mate, iirc they are part of or a sister company of Clifford, very reasonable prices
Clifford's the one everyone's always talking about, also provides many different customisation options (like remote start, etc).
Cat1 is cat1, they are all very similar in spec.. the differences come from who installs it. I've had Clifford Vipers for years and no end of trouble with them going off on a whim all day and night .. and the features look impressive but they kill the battery in days .. the fobs are useful though but they eat batteries and when the fob battery is dying you can spend ( well I did ) 15 mins trying to get in the car.
My latest supe came with a toad .. (any witch wisecracks may result in a bash on the head with a hot cauldron:p) and whilst it was fine it didnt have an installation certificate so was useless for insurance purposes and this one has flat round (watch type) batteries in the keyfob and they were an absolute nightmare to try and replace without damaging the circuit boards .. so that went too..
Now 2/3 of mine have Sigma and I have to say so far, great.. one button operation, is a little override button pad in the car but you have to know its there to find it .. features were great, not killing my battery and doesnt go off adhoc ... unless you keep your finger on the button too long then the panic alarm kicks in ... as I found out at WIM lol
My advice.. don't worry as much about the model alarm as getting a good installer .. and check your indicators and lights etc once they've finished before you pay !
Ive just thought about it and i think it may have been an avital alarm that i had:confused1::confused1: either way i think they are also decent alarms
We use Clifford - no issues at all.
http://www.caralarmsecurity.co.uk are good for installs.

I am aware it's normal to ask for cat1.
I was just moaning cos it's yet another expense I can do without atm.
Too much going out not enough coming in
I was mainly after which gives best standard features with the ability to add extras at a later date.
It seems that Clifford is the way to go
You can get alarms off ebay with install certs........
Get a Cliford, Rabster knows his way around that system very well. Could save you a couple of £'s??? have to ask him 1st though.
