Heat shields have been getting worse over the time I've had the car so today I went out to buy some clamps to just tighten them up and see if it would stop the rattles.

Before I heading off just nipped under the car to check the size I needed, 10 mins later Blush

Guess what, no more rattles Wink

2 you see on the ground are just between the mid pipe and cat, they were verging on rotten.

Replace them, god no, prob cost a fortune LOL

Had plenty of custom exhausts without heat shields, nothing to worry about IMO Smile

What tools did you use to remove the heat shields? I think my pre cats are busted, but before I remove them I just want to make sure it isn't just heat shield rattle I hear.

Did yours rattle all the time or just at certain RPMs?

i think the tool he used is called brute force its a very good tool and can be used on many items LOL

most of the nuts that hold these on are rotten on most cars. so when you try to undo them they just snap the thread anyway

That was the very thing

Rattle was worst at low revs, especially around the town.

The pre cat heat shields are held on by tabs folded over at the edges mate, I used a flat bladed screwdriver when i removed mine, just to fold the tabs back and then pulled them apart,
There is a bit of wadding inside them that looks like heat proof matting, mine had pretty much fallen apart so wasn't doing much?
