Drivers!!
my coach I could get so close to a wall that you couldn't walk behind it, never once crashed it or put a scratch on it, can do the same with lorries.
There is a trick to it:
Park the vehicle with the rear against a wall as close as you want to go in normal driving.
Look along the side of the vehicle, in your wing mirror, is there anything that lines up with the base of the wall?
If so then as long as your mirror is in the same position you can safely reverse up to the point that the mark on your car/coach/lorry lines up with the base of the wall.
This works really well with commercial vehicles because of the amount of side markers, and stuff. Not so well with cars though as they are pretty smooth.
This "trick" is used in the LGV and PSV driving test to check your reversing ability.
^^ agreed,
I can see in my wing mirror the bottom inside edge of the wheel arch, i use this as my point of refernce
another trick i use is to keep your left foot on the brake just enough to set the lights off but not to add any resistance, the reflection off objects acts as a good visual marker
doing this at night times means i can park within inches using only the rear view mirror!
or reverse until you hit the car behind you then pull forward 4inches, thats what I have seen today in Tesco.

I love the rear view camera, fantastic invention. For those of us with auto park the yellow box that tells you where you will go given your current steering angle is brilliant also.
On the Prius the yellow guide lines are great but the IPA is not so good, takes a long time to make sure your in the correct position then is not accurate.
I actually think the IPA is pretty good, while it can take ages to program perfectly, it generally gets it almost right on its own - so if you just let it do it and hit go 9 times out of 10 you'll end up pretty much in the space (possibly needing some minor adjustment).
Plus it's incredibly cool
whilst being very cool, and i agree it is
will it not simply dumb-down the new-age drivers?
the amount of people i know who cant drive a car without power steering is unreal!!!
personally i love the old skool feel!
