Has anyone polished up their IS200 s/steel zorst?
If so how easy/long did it take?

Also any pics?

Bandit Cleans and polishes anything and everything that his time allows for, he's probably the best chap for advice on this subject,

I had a go at doin just the exhaust tip but it came out rubbish, still marked lol

i dont know if it would be any different for an is200 as for the mr2, but i used a mixture of autoglym metal polish and 3.5k grit micromesh, works a treat. As far as i know though, micromesh is quite tricky to get hold of, especially the really fine stuff.

if you go down that road, dont go too harsh, you will forever be polishing the fine scratches out. I had a go with 32k micromesh, its time consuming!!

I've always found fine grade wire wool and Autosol metal Polish works well Cool

IS 200 Sport with a few mods, Standardish IS-F. The IS250 SE-L with a few mods has gone to a new home.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

wire wool isnt the best stuff to use on anything metal, you can cause an electrolytic reaction called dissimilar metal corrosion, its not ideal.

'Anything metal'?? Galvanic corrosion as you describe would only be a risk in this situation if you leave the stainless steel in contact with the carbon steel wire wool, or bits of it that may break off of it. Polishing the surface as you need to do after applying the Autosol removes any traces of carbon steel, and the risk of extended galvanic corrosion.
What's the risk of short term exposure? The difference in anodic index is probably less than 0.25V.

Thats why stainless steel exhausts rust, because of the electrolytic reaction.
Unless you do the whole thing, you cant guarantee getting all the bits from the wire wool off. personally, and its only my opinion, i wouldnt. Blush

Unless you do the whole thing, you cant guarantee getting all the bits from the wire wool off. personally, and its only my opinion, i wouldnt. Blush
