Is it not just a matter of putting a switch in the wire?

You could fit it on the little panel at the side of the dash that you can see when you open the door, it pops out to help mount the switch.

i would have thought if you disconect the wire from it, then it would through up a airbag error in the process may render the rest of the airbags useless in an accident (whilst disconnected)

you could find the resistance of the airbag you want to disable locate the plug cut in there and chuck a resistor in thus disabling the airbag without the warning light....

It wont disable the rest, but will bring up an airbag light.

like rab said a resister will prevent this. you could have a double switch so it breaks both wires to the aribag and instead joins the circuit to a resistor so the car still think its there.

I think in some (maybe not lexus) when the airbag circuit detects a fault it disables the rest of the airbags as the circuit has a malfunction...

i know it did this in my vectra and im sure my estate is the same or so the garage told me lol not that i trust garages nowadays

Rabster is right, any sort of error detected in the airbag system will disable the entire system. Im surprised the car doesnt have something fitted as standard to disable the passenger airbags. Most cars have this function

2009 JAE Car Pull Runner Up
2010 JAE Car Pull Failure

I would think twice about measuring the resistance across the airbag. The LS400 workshop manual I have says that doing that will set it off. There's a whole page long warning telling you not to do it Wink
