As you know I had both an Aristo and my "famous" IS200 when I moved back to France last year. I used the Aristo as my daily driver and the IS200 as a track car only. I then sold the Aristo and bought the IS-F. The IS200 was starting to show its limit on the track power wise and I just could not justify throwing more money in it after all it cost me already. I decided to sell it and get a proper performance car with real engine potential.
So the week-end before JAE I bought its replacement : an e36 BMW M3 :Chair:
The car was not really well looked after but the body seemed in good condition with no rust and a recent paintjob. It already had a Schirmer tuning (airbox, exhaust, injectors and ECU) and came with 4 real AC Schnitzer wheels fitted with Advan slick tyres.
It is a 1993 model so a 3.0l engine and it had 200 000 kms on the clock :ohmy:
Here is what it looked like when I bought it:
The day after I got it it started its diet, I removed the rear seats, the side panels and started tidying at the wiring loom
I had a track event planned for beginning of October so the goal was to get the car ready for then. The Bilstein shocks on the car were shot and the top mount were no better so I ordered a set of XYZ coilovers with race spec settings.
The car was lifted on jack stands and we removed the crappy set in place :
And that is when the worse happenned :
The 2 top mounts had damaged the shell
After much reflexion on what could be done to repair, I got a mate weld the shell with washers on top to reinforce. Here is the result:
It is not pretty but it is quite solid.

You can tell the car was in need of some love ...

Coming along nicely, the M3 should be a great track car! Are those AC Schnitzer wheels? They look like the latest M3 alloys?
Thanks. The wheels on the pictures are indeed copies of the e92 M3 wheels, the Schnitzer once are not on yet as they are fitted with slick tyres.
The seller told me it had a Schnitzer tuning but it happened that it has not, it is Schirmer tuning that has been done. The stickers on the side will go anyway
The front end has been cleaned up a bit : removal of the fog lights that were broken anyway, tremoval of the M3 badge, flat black grill and removed bonnet sound proofing:
And on Wednesday before the track event, the coilover finally arrived :

So it is finally back on its wheels just in time for the track event. It it a bit high but we could not be botheredd to remove the coilovers again so we will do it later.
This is how it sits now that it has been lowered :
After the coilovers were finally fitted I went for a test drive and there was noise when turning. It turned out that the steering fluid level was quite low so I had to top it up the day before going to the track.
We had to remove the airbox to access the steering fluid tank so a needed thorough cleaning was done at the same time:
While my mate was working on the airbox and steering rack, I decided to remove the lower part of the dashboard:
I had to relocate the windows and hazard switches :
