Parked up in a car park earlier today, when I came back to it there was quite a bit of fluid in front of the car and it looked as though it had run out from under the car, poked my head down to have a look - there was a trail but no drips.

Drove it home, forgot about it for a while, then remembered and came out to have a look again. There was a small puddle under the car, and there was a very slow drip.

It doesn't look like oil, and brake fluid and coolant reservoirs are full. The place that's dripping looks as though it's the middle of the car at the back of the engine bay, not sure if that's the source but that's where it's dripping from.

It's not dripping at the moment after leaving the car for a few hours without using it.........does anyone have any ideas what's leaking, or is it possibly just some condensation from the A/C system or something?

Only thing that got me concerned was the sheer amount of fluid that was under the car in the car park, but I haven't had any warning lights on the dash or anything.

The rads do go on 200 check the bottom of the rad by running your hand under it be carefull of the sharp edges while doing this.
If you lok through the rear bumper on the bottom edge facing you this is were the rads go normally.
Hope fully it will be the air con.

Don't be afraid and go and stick you finger in it. Smell? Consistency?

I imagine, as already said, it'll be the A/C sweating.

Not too familiar with the IS, but a lot of modern cars have collectors for the A/C sweating, and so it can look very concentrated and a lot of fluid.

steviewevie What colour is the fluid ? Is it clear ?
It is clear, and the bit that was on the drive appears to have evaporated away making me think it was water.

Gord Did you have your a/c on mate ? if yes it could just be off this Confusedleep: keep your eye on the others mind just in case :thumbup1:
Yep A/C is always on, hopefully that's all it was and have seen the odd tiny patch before and not bothered about it - it was the amount of fluid that was under the car that worried me slightly, it was as though a can of coke had been spilled under the car (except clear). Can that much fluid have come from the A/C system?

*EDIT* Just noticed your post roadside tech, if a large amount of fluid can come from the A/C then that must have been it, didn't realise it would collect it and then dump the lot......

I did think it could be the radiator, but the drip was so far away from the front of the car I thought it was unlikely - will check along the bottom though, I guess I wouldn't get a warning light for that if only a small amount of fluid has been dropped?

Marsdendean does it smell like cat wee? could be gearbox oil? Just keep your eyes peeled like gord said!
No idea what cat wee smells like! :w00t:

It's an auto though, is transmission fluid still a possibility?

That sounds promising, hopefully that's all it is then, car's going into Lexus on Thursday for a service anyway, will get them to take a look at it to be 100% sure.

Thanks for the advice guys Smile

Was just looking at the aircon diagrams on toyodiy, and there is a pipe at the back of the engine bay for discharge of water that comes out the back of the aircon unit so as said above it does look likely to be that? Had it a few times on my lex but it was only a bit even after a good long drive? Smile

I would say that it was the A/C too, the cars at work do the same when they've been parked running for a while leaving a small river, like a can of coke size. I wouldn't worry too much, just double check the fluids over the next couple of days to clarify, but you'd notice the difference if it was anti-freeze/oil etc.

If it's clear and evaporating, it can only be water or petrol. You'd smell it if it were petrol, so worry ye not, although I'm sure Lexus will come up with some excuse to make you spend your money Big Grin

It doesn't so much collect it and dump it, but collects it and gives it a single outlet, so it comes from a designated spot, unlike the old days where they'd let it drip any old place.

Ahh so the small river isn't unusual? That's ok then seems I was worried for nothing
