I left the house at 8:20 this morning with 2 of my kids to take them to school.

Having dropped them off, I went up to the ex-wife's to collect my eldest as the snow had apparently meant that her usual transport was unable to get up the street... Huh Oddly enough, my IS made it up the road just fine... Flippin' taxi drivers...

However getting to the road to get up it was indeed a pain. I even passed Ormi heading in the other direction (going to work I reckon) - and while mine is a little bit twitchy in the snow, I can only imagine what a charged one is like!

Anyway, having dropped the younger 2 off at 8:50, it was near half 9 when I left with the eldest. She attends a special residential school in Alloa, which is about 40 miles up the M9 motorway...

Normally to get to the M9 from where I live, it takes about 20 minutes. It was just shy of 12 o'clock when I got to the start of the M9 today... 2.5 hours to cross Edinburgh...

Then another hour on the M9 to get to the school in Alloa, and I was ready to head back to Edinburgh at about 1pm...

Unfortunately by this time, the M8 was closed. As was the M90. which meant that pretty much all the traffic on those routes headed down the M9 instead... the resulting volumes of traffic had me and a few other stuck drivers chucking snowballs at each other while we waited. A few miles further down the road, someone had built a small family of snowmen Smile

Eventually there was movement... I've been home half an hour now...

So, a school run that lasted from 8:20 to 17:10... a smidgen under 9 hours...

Can you beat that?

Not quite, but many moons ago I was a coach driver, my 1st time in a 50 seat coach with a manual crash 'box, it started to snow hard, took from 3.45 to 11.30 to do a 1 hour school run. The coach was a little twitchy over 30mph but we made it safely!!

I might have been one of them, but I didn't see any cameras, and I'm fairly sure the group of us wasn't the only one... If it was the M9 between junction 2 and 1 southbound then quite possibly I was one of them

What you get caught doing? I did think you looked a bit dressed up for Toyota, more like The Accused  And the back end of your car looked a bit twitchy on the road all right, can't be much fun!

That must have been a little scary Dave .. being caught out in bad weather as adults is one thing but with children and for that length of time is a whole different issue.

Lol Ormi, you haven't been busted doing an aircon without your certificate .. Imagine next years Outlaw Movie Premiere 'Ormi and the case of the tepid aircon'

Sorry

Heh Sam, Ormi has his aircon cert... he was ever so proud of the fact that he passed without bothering to revise...

And I was a bit worried, having been in the car for such a long time - my daughter has special needs and had we actually got totally stuck it would've been intensely bad... However she enjoyed watching the snow, and while it was slow going, the trip up there to drop her off didn't result in any actual halts, thankfully... The big waits were coming back, and she was safely ensconced at school by then...

And for anyone interested, one of my colleagues who has to use the M8 motorway took 22 hours to get home... The police have shut that motorway down between junctions 1 and 5 overnight so they can sort out the various lorry drivers etc who are stuck there...

However all is good cos there's finally been a plough up the access road to my place, meaning that my bumper won't be pushing the snow out of the way as I get out of here in the morning! Plus the other 2 kids school is open, so they'll be there.

And I will come back and work from home again rather than try to get to Livingston...

Try that same idea with 50 school girls from 6 to 18 years old....... Was not fun.
