Ice fitting time IS200!!
Ice fitting time IS200!!
Ok guys and girls Im gonna try to get some boom boom into my lex. First off I have got the amp bypass cable from an ebay shop with the front facia.
Im going to be using an old but mint condition HU a pioneer 7700MP. I have played with the facia to see how it all fits but Im a lil unsure the best way to put it together.
Option 1 is to use the Din cage that i had with the HU but this leaves the HU sitting further in than I would like. (I thought the HU would sit a little more proud of the facia)
Option 2 is to ditch the Din cage and use the ISO plastic clips that come with the facia and also use the facia surround from the kit instead of the surround on the HU.
Not sure what you guys have done with your installs ??
I have also managed to souce (via ebay) an aux in connector for my HU which plugs into the cd changer input and gives you a 3.5mm jack to plug in pretty much any audio device. I want to route this to the top tray on the dash any one got any ideas on this ?? I have seen some people put a mic in the top tray before just wondering if any one has any tips ??
The final part of this cheap install with be the fitting of my old kenwood (digital) amp and a pair of boxed cheap pioneer subs.
All this ice ive had lying around since my old car (honda civic coupe) just been too scared to mod the lexus as it isnt as straight forward as any of my previous motors lol !!!
It's pretty easy to route a cable from a head unit to whereever you want really. If you've got the head unit out, then you'll also have the a/c controls out and the top dash tray, so if that's the one you mean you can put the cable up there very simply. Or you can route it down to the gap underneath the heated seat/TRC buttons. Or some people route a cable to the glovebox so they can put in an iPod etc there.
On the fascia I would go with whatever you think looks good. There's no right or wrong really, as long as it fits ok and you're happy with the final result.
The standard system is pretty good on the IS200. Well, that's what I thought till I put in a replacement with Bluetooth, iPod support, etc, etc - much better !
Asi he quality of the standard speakers improved a little bit but not alot. That's pretty much how it was for me too. I'd say the quality was slightly better on my new head unit (a reasonable Pioneer one, not bottom-end but not top-end either), but the extra functions are invaluable.

just make sure you set aside enough time and dont rush..
HU install isnt too hard but it is very easy to mark the dash so make sure to tape up all the surround.
you may need to swap the yellow and red wires round on the loomso that yourHU doesnt stay on without the ignition, the illumination lead is normally seperateand tends to be a green wire in the loom and dont forget to run a switched live to the black radio aerial feed..
if you find it a bit of a struggle im only up the road..
ASI: for fronts i cant recommendthe MB Quart stuff high enough for Sound Quality. Like anything, the better the install, the better the sound!Start a new thread with budget etc and i will post up a few links..
Thanks for the advice ppl and Wozza i will get i contact once you pm me the correct details !! To be honest im using ICE that i already have and dont wanna spend any more money on the motor (I have a flat that ive stripped out and been decorating/furnishing for the last 2 years that i need to finish and move in to !!)
The new head unit is a start and the subs/amp will be next on the fitting list.... Why oh why is the lexus a pig to modify lol !!!! Im sure to get there in the end though lol !!
