Hey guys I need some help trying to root my Galaxy S.
Basically the bottom line is I don't get how to do it. And giving a link to more thinks I don't understand doesn't help either.
Yes you need to put your own firmware on the root folder of the OS and then go recovery mode etc. But I can't do it? Always says verification failed?
Thanks
Oli

Ok in terms of the JPY, JP7 and all that, those are just different firmwares, if you click on settings and then "about phone" you'll see what your current firmware version is and then you also have "baseband version" which will end with something like the above to indicate which firmware version you are on - as an example mine says "I9000XXJPP"

Now in terms of rooting, I am using this thread:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108

You need to download the file at the bottom of the first post corresponding to your firmware.

Download Odin from http://www.samfirmware.com (it's in the firmware section). There's a useful guide to flashing on there too.

And then follow these instructions:

Instructions (long)
- Follow these instructions to the letter. Do not touch any buttons or checkboxes that are not listed below to touch!
- Unzip the attached CF-Root-JPx-vX.X.zip
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start ODIN
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Root-JPx-vX.X.tar
- Put your phone in download mode
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure repartition is NOT checked
- Click the START button
- Wait for the phone to reboot
- Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)

However this is my disclaimer, if you aren't comfortable doing this don't do it as it could end up killing your phone..................

2002 '02' IS200 SE Auto - DVD Satnav with Voice Activation - Strathcaron Blue - Parking Sensors - 5000K HIDs with Anti-Glare Bulbs - PIAA 6500K Main Beams - LED Sidelights - Mirror/Sunroof Closure - TTE Styling Kit - 18" Styling Kit Alloys with nitrogen filled Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric Tyres - Bluetouch Multimedia Kit - Gromaudio AUX in - Black painted calipers with silver Lexus decals - 12 LED Dome Light - 96 LED Boot Light - Stainless Steel Sport Sill Plates - PIAA Silicone Wipers

You must have one of the ones with the disabled download mode then - I've not looked through those threads as I haven't needed it but have a look on xda as there is a way to reinstate it (think it requires the use of adb though)
