a question. can you change over the ecu without having the key transponder or is the imobilizer inbuilt into the ecu?. need to replace my ecu and have seen a few on there own on ebay

I think the transponder is part of the ECU.
Is the dealer machine capable of reprogramming the ECU or the keys to match the new ECU?

i can program the keys ok but we dont have the machine for the ecu. loads of the ecu's on ebay have just the ecu and not sure if i can find the code to it to reprogram them

Is it not just a removable chip in the ECU? as a few sellers sell them as just chips not full ECU's?

have opened my ecu and cant see any chip that you can change out without soldering .... is the emobilzer in the main ecu unit? and if so what chip do you need to replace

i thought there was a separate ecu for the theft deterrent system ?

have you tried unplugging the ecu and locking the car via the remote ?

no mate but i will. and does it matter if i use a early model ecu or do i need the same part number for it. as mine is a 05 and those for sale are 01
