Renault Megane playing up?
Renault Megane playing up?
My ex-wife drive through a large puddle (ok, huge - for those of you who know the Wisp area in Edinburgh you'll know about the small river that opens up across the road just after the bend toward Newcraighall...) and her car's now playing silly games...
Lots of lights flashing, engine being weird (she had to stall it on the driveway to get it to actually switch off) and even after the engine was off and keycard removed etc the wipers were still going.
All I could think of to suggest was pulling the battery connections to make the darn wipers stop running!
Obviously this is likely to be water ingress somewhere (fuse boxes maybe) - anyone have any suggestions where should be checked? And if it gets dried out can a large repair bill be avoided?
Cheers in advance for any help
Check the coils on the top of the engine, they don't like getting wet...also the o2 sensor wiring plug hates water which is under the car..spray wd40 on all the connectors..
As with any device that gets wet, switch it off straight away (which you've done) and open anything that could have been the cause (like the fusebox) and allow to dry naturally.
i.e. definitely leave the car for a day or two to dry out on it's own, if you have a garage that would be ideal.
Potentially if it all dries out and damage hasn't already been done then it could be ok.
Scrap Yard?? :p
Hope there isnt water in the engine mate? not sure on the electrics, might just need time to dry out for the electrics to go back to normal (if your lucky)

Well get him to check it out, he must know a wee bit about cars.
I would guess that if the coils had got wet it would cause a misfire and engine warning light to come on, the coils are generally under a large grey plastic top cover that unclips and pulls off.
The o2 sensor screws into the front exhaust pipe and generally has 2, 3 or 4 wires coming from it,
