Bye bye calypso calipers!
Bye bye calypso calipers!
Ever since some monkeys at the local alloy wheel shop sprayed my calipers orangey red I've hated it and wanted to fix it. Unfortunately its one of those jobs that can take aaaages (if you do it properly).
Today I decided to tackle it....
Wheels off. Ugly caliper colour on full show. Started to clean it off with a wire brush drill bit:
Almost there:
Pretty much as good as I could get them after approx 1:30hrs:
Makeshift spraybooth
First Coat:
Taken after 3 coats and stickers applied:
Now on to the rears....
Spray booth:
After 3 coats:
Finished product. Time for a beer
Top effort Jim!
Been thinking about doing this myself but I was worried I'd have to take the calipers right off to do it, I presume you left them in place?
What kind of paint did you use? I was thinking to use silver hammerite or something on mine, but think that's more "brush" than "spray" surely?
Cheers mate.
Yeah I left them right in place. Didn't really even bother masking them up at all. Just took it out for a slow drive afterwards to get rid of any overspray on the discs and stop anything from gumming up.
I used Halfords caliper spray paint. Its really good as it goes, gives excellent coverage. I did try a pot of Hammerite 'Smooth' and it looked absolutely sh*t painted on with a brush.
Rabster i used hamerite smooth on mine and i thought it looked ok im not a fan of spraying my self but looks like you masked it all up well enough so top effort mate

Nice job mate, that looks really good. Love the makeshift spray booth as well
Hammerite works ok, obviously a spray finish will be better but even though I probably wasn't as patient with my application as many others I don't think it's completely obvious it went on with a brush (especially when behind the wheels)
Looking good Jim :thumbup1:
Good thing to do with the hammerite paints is to use the hammerite thinners? only needs a bit to thin it down and will give you a lot smoother coat :thumbup1:
