Phil01 I bought one of the Chinese imitation Ipad's, its called an Apad, very good for the money at £140, sadly only used it twice before the daughter laid claim to it and never to be seen again haha

Was that running android? Sounds like a nice cheap option, quite like the Motorola Xoom but I think the pricing is a bit off (as with all these tablets at the moment)

To be fair I've never used Android on a tablet, it might be a bit more suited to that. I find that it doesn't really work like I think a phone should when installed on a smartphone. Some bits of the OS don't quite 'gel', things aren't always where I'd expect them to be. Which is the reverse of the iPad/iPhone, which have had a lot more time and thought put into their interfaces.

I like some of the dedicated in-car pc apps the most. They focus on functionality like making sure everything's readable at-a-glance (which is important while driving!) and that buttons are suitably sized to hit when you're concentrating on the road. You don't tend to get that as much with tablet's running their native OS, because they weren't designed for use in a car.

I'd love to see what on earth you'd have to do to an iPad to make it display a reversing camera

I guess the significant difference is that there are quite a few people who already have iPads, so the outlay for the tablet isn't an issue to them. You'd be mental to buy one specifically for car use though, I think.

yes it is running android 2.1, just need to buy an additional micro sd card as no on-board storage, even got gps with an external antenna.
it can do all that a Ipad can do and more,
Only criticism is the screen can lack a slight colour definition but for the money its ideal

Having used android for a while now, that is the most common complaint and I'd have to agree - there is a slight lack of coherence within the OS but to be fair it has improved so much from where it was and is getting better with every software update.

It's a shame that android and iOS are at two complete opposite ends of the spectrum, iOS is all about user friendliness while android is all about functionality. If you check out the stuff on Honeycomb on the Xoom, android has really taken a big step forwards and does actually make a more compelling argument as a device that sits between a smartphone and an actual laptop. The iPad to me is still a giant iPhone regardless of what anyone says, and I'm actually a bit disappointed that the iPad 2 hasn't now brought a slightly more tablet specific OS.

This whole area is about to get a lot more exciting though with the weight that HP is putting behind WebOS, and also the partnership between Microsoft and Nokia..........

Cool might give that a look in, sounds like a decent price for a tablet just for occasional browsing on the sofa and stuff Smile

The install is excellent, a top job - the "which pad" debate is irrelevant to the job itself. I must agree with parthiban though on the windows OS - that will be better to have in a car.
