Hi all, a friend of mine has started to attend some drift sessions in his RS200, however he is experiencing some problems.

He reports only one wheel spinning although his chassis number denotes A01B

Now the car is 12 years old, so there is a chance that its been changed for an open diff in the past, how can he tell what diff he has?

and what diff will he need for his drift car?

Cheers

The only way to tell which diff is in there is to open it up.

If it is an Altezza diff the case is in fact slightly different to the IS200 - the Altezza one has heat fins on it the IS200 one is smooth.

Ok I'll have a look to see if it's got fins, how would you tell if it's a LSD though other than driving it, does the is200 diff fit, if so are these all LSD or only available on sports?

Cheers :-)

Only the Sport came with an LSD - even then it was only an "option" from the factory on the earlier models.

The ONLY way to tell is to open it up and see what's inside it - its a torsion type so jacking the car up and spinning a wheel will not tell you anything.

The Diffs are completely interchangeable, only the drive shafts are different - one has 4 studs the other 6 studs but the bit the drive shafts bolt up to are easy to swap over.

Cheers pal, just spoke to him about fins etc he was a little confused so I'll have a look for him, he said it looks like fins on the side but I'm sure these are probably casting marks and the fins would be on the rear of the diff?

Are there any part numbers etc on the diffs? Just thinking how to identify a LSD at a breakers yard or fleabay lol

Cheers

They are underneath the Diff, fairly obvious when you look at it.
