Tis looking like the quick answer to this is : The edit button is a paid member only facility in this club ...

Oli, helping the club would have been a donation, not taking out a subscription you knew you weren't allowed because of your age .. the sympathy vote clearly isn't working for you sweetie, give it up now Smile

[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] That symbol on the side of my door.. Definition by FirebirdPhil 'Translated it means -
"try to overtake - go on give it a go I dare you......."
I'm not an Outlaw; I'm a Poutlaw! Purple Supras are the bestest! I love purple .. a lot lot lot Smile

I'm not trying to get sympathy in the slightest, it's the club who says "the club needs money to maintain the running costs" so I tried to help out by giving them £20 out of my own pocket, but they refused. Not my problem at all, why would I want sympathy from a car club...
"helping the club would have been a donation", me giving £20 and them not giving me anything in return, is actually classed as a donation, as it was going to a worthy cause.
I didn't take out the membership because I wanted to break the rules, I took the membership out because I wanted to increase my personal message box, gain access to edit my garage, use signatures and be able to edit posts. I just think it's a bit stupid that the club wanted money, I tried to give it to them, they refused and suspended me for a week.
In fact posting this reply will just get me nowhere, just a waste of time typing it to be quite honest.

Ok let’s sort this now

Oli from what I have been told you applied for a subscription which you knew was against the clubs rules which are there to protect the club and young children from adult material something which comes with every car club. its the nature of the hobby if you had wished to make a donation that would have been different. If the club had not refunded the money but took it as you have now said as a donation and put you as a standard user not an outlaw im sure your story would be completely different now.

This means no more talk about this on this or any other thread Oli.

Chris, in answer to your question, the edit button is a know loop hole in many forums and the decision was taken to allow this only to be used by members that had paid up or were sponsors this limits the risk the club has from potential cyber attacks. The club did have a spate of these attacks last year.

There is an option being explored that may well see long standing helpful members gaining the edit button once again.

The other option is like you have said to allow every user to have the facility to edit post for the genuine mistakes that can get made. Based on this maybe the edit feature should only be allowed for each post for a period of 20min after that is as the saying says written in stone.

Part of the job for me and the other moderators is to serve you guys and girls to the best of our ability if this means editing a post because you made a grammatical error or you spotted something that was missed out of the post that relevant we have no problem in editing to sort this for you.

We all deal with allot of stuff on the club for which we don’t do to benefit our selves, it’s all to help the club and its members out. We don’t ask for thanks for it as we all ultimately share the same common interest our Japanese cars and the want to share that with everyone.

I will close this topic tonight once the relevant people have read it, should you have any further questions or complaints about this don’t hesitate in contacting

Thank you Rabs.
I was unaware that there was a loop hole with the edit button and I now get where your coming from Wink
If a facility to offer the edit button for 20mins or so was available then I'm sure it'd be greatly appreciated Wink

Didn't mean for all the rest of the debate to happen as I was only enquiring about 1 thing.

I agree (though it sometimes peeves me off) that only allowing paid members the edit button is a good idea. The timed edit button is a brilliant idea. As it's easy to make a mistake, especially if you are submitting a long a complicated post with many pics etc. Especially bearing in mind some are more IT literate than others.

Rabs, in the above post, I mistook the spelling of the word mistake. Can you please edit it for me, and then delete this post requesting the edit, as I don't want people to think I'm stoopid. Many thanks.

Ok, so I did that on purpose, but I genuinely intended to write "long and complicated" but my fingers typed "long a complicated", I missed it on a proof read before posting and then noticed it after the second post. A better example for needing an edit button I cannot think of! Though I just need my paypal filled up when my auctions finish Sunday and I'll be paid up anyway, so it will no longer be an issue for me!
