Just thought I would poll you guys for your opinions before I head to a garage.....every time I start up, it takes a good 2 seconds/2-3 turnovers before the engine fires up. Is this normal? In my previous car (mitsubishi legnum) it fired up practically instantly.

I have replaced the battery and had the alternator checked and all is ok there, so could it be starter/leads/plugs?

Any ideas?

Cheers

Thanks sparkystav, any chance it could be a throttle body in need of a clean?
The sparks have done 55k now so it's possible they are in need of replacement. Forgot bout the leads not being "leads" as such.

Thanks Jay will look into that. Re replacing plugs I was gonna stick with own denso's as most people recommend them. I have used ngk's before and was pleased wither them, however in this instance I will start with being a lemming

Ok have found a set of sk20's for £50 on sparkplugs.co.uk and will be ordering some shortly and hopefully fitting weekend after next. Does anyone know the torque I should apply when tightening down the new ones? I know it's not much.

I recon the best thing to start wiv is the plugs as they can cause all sorts of silly problems i struggled to get past 145 in the skyline but changed the plugs for a colder rated plug went with ngk and was happy when i flew past 160 lol. Does the car have coil packs as they are a ***** too when they break down?
