415 miles to a tank
415 miles to a tank
Hi guys,
we all know how bad fuel burns a pocket not literally of course that would be dangerous. anyways i struggle with how much the is costs me too run these days so i decided to take the spare wheel out, some bits and bobs in the boot and the jack etc. to my delight i am regulary cracking the 400 mile mark per tank. before it used to be around 380-390.
it got me thinking. if such a small thing could improve mpg so much what else could i remove to improve mpg even more!
The engine?

Ditch the sunroof, switch the front seats for racing ones, get some lighter wheels. You could probably also run underdriven pulleys and switch the stock exhaust system for an aluminium/titanium one.
Of course it'd prolly take 10 years to get back the money you'd spent in fuel savings. But hey, you'd have an awesomely modded IS in the process :p
Careful with the back end on a wet road if you have no spare in the boot
Remove all the paint....... the Delorian look is so cool
take out the electric seats and replace with manual ones
go back to horrid cloth interior rather then leather
remove the A/C components - thats a good few KG's
tape up the front grill
drive with one wheel on the painted lines on the road (less rolling resistance - hyper mile nutters do this a lot)
THINK ahead and only use the breaks is absolutely necessary - this is the no1 fuel saver
keep tyre pressure up
use pre worn tyres not new.
There are no better cars out there size for size then the Prius if fuel saving is an issue.
