Need help, I am after a wide angle lens and was wondering if the wide angle convertor like this,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/52mm-WIDE-ANGLE-Le...511wt_1139
that screws onto your existing lens is a good as a proper dedicated wide angle lens like this,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EX-NIKON-Nikkor-AI...094wt_1139

If I am correct in thinking, would the convertor change a standard 18-70mm
into a 8-33ishmm wide angle.
cheers

I've never tried one of these but I think you'll get a fair amount of distortion - not sure if you've looked closely but if you look at photos using your current lens at the widest setting there will be some distortion.

At that price though might be worth a punt just to see how bad (or good) it is?

Is that the right size though? My D90 has a 67mm thread and thought the D70 had the same (although you may be using a different lens)

that lens was just plucked at random as a ref to what I meant.
But am I right in saying that it will convert a 18-70 into a 8-35ish mm

Ahh ok no probs, yep as far as my understanding goes that's what the converter will do.

Btw, I love the guarantee of no distortion

Parth, mine is a 67mm thread,
Cant go wrong with this combo, a wide angle and 2.2 telephoto,
Like you said, for the money it is worth the cost just to see the performance.

Absolutely, at that price it won't matter if it turns out to be rubbish, well worth a try and interested to see the results.

I'm about to buy a camera, and for an extra £300 I can have a Sigma 10-20mm Wide Angle Lens thrown in. I know it would be nice, but I don't think I can justify the cost at the moment (or even lay my hands on the cash!) especially for my first "proper" camera.

Did you get one of these Phil? Interested to know your thoughts on it if you did, as I will be looking to go the same route... for the time being.

Confusedad: It was a tough call to make, but the Supercharged IS200 is being retired. Confusedad:

Be careful buying non 'OEM' lenses though, should be fine if you check the quality.

But as an example, I can't use Sigma lenses in my camera because the autofocus motor is too fast and strips the plastic gears in the lens after a while. All the Sony ones I have use metal gears, so just do a bit of research first...:thumbup1:
