Hey guys,

I received a invoice from fedex today for £15.04 for the lip spoiler I ordered from eBay that came from Taiwan, I know you have to pay import duty and some items but for a car spoiler that has a declared value of 41 USD??
Should I have to pay this? Can anyone shed anymore light if this is a taxable item?

unfortuantly this is a good scam the postal companies have.

they charge you import duty and VAT from Customs, then they charge you a handling fee because they pay if for you then want paying back.

Now thats where the issue lies, you never asked them to perform that service in the first place. If it got customs charges they should leabe it there till you pay customs direct.

Then they technically hold your item at ransom until you pay all charges even though they have no right to.

Think of it as someone clamping your car to "secure it" when you didnt ask them to then charging you for doing it.

hmm odd then, different to parcelforce!

ring them and challenge them. get them to break it down for you then justify their extra charges

Any item coming into the country from outside of the EU, where the total declared value of the item and shipping combined comes to more than £18 gets import duty applied to it. Because the courier company basically pays the import charge for you at the point of the thing entering the country, they then pass that charge on to you. There's obviously gonna be a handling charge there as you're costing them money (you paid to get the item TO the UK, not for delivery within the UK).

It sucks but that's how it works.

Does it actually say december or does it say 4/12/11 ? Fedex use American dating systems so that is 12th April
