Hello to all
Hello to all
Hi All,
Joined the forum a few weeks ago, I have a Lexus is250 se-l mm.Had the car now for just over a year now, before anyone asks for pictures, I will post them once I have resloved the issues I am having with the car for the last 4 months as I am the point of totally regreating buying the car. Had the track rod end/oxygen sensors and now the steering rack replaced,oh and the 4 tyres too but still have issues with driving. At speeds under 60 it feels good anything above 60 it feels like the car is 'floating' ie the car does not feel planted. Been to WIM to get geo done too cured the tramling to a certain extend but the nervousness at high speeds remains. Has anyone had a similar problems or has anyone any suggestions. Thank you
Welcome to the club mate.
I was going to say make sure you have same brand tyres on each axle and that the tread is good. Mixing brands can sometimes cause the car to feel twitchy at higher speeds.
Welcome to the Outlaws
I'd echo what Phil said re tyres and brand matching.
Enjoy the forums.... and shove up a few pictures when you get a chance, otherwise various people will cry :ttiuwp: and stuff
what like this:

Strange problem you have there, especially if it has been to WIM, as I am sure they would have found your problem.
These cars feel planted infact one of the best at high speed.
sounds like the obvious but is the front anti-roll bar fitted securely by the clamps/rubbers and the arb links have no play in them?
Are your dampers in good nick??
Lots to check, so can you please itemise what you have replaced/checked
Does sound like it might be tyre related, have you changed your rear tyres as well?
Welcome to OJC, real shame to buy a car and then not want to drive it, hope you get it sorted soon.
Hi, welcome to the Outlaws.
I have experienced this problem in my IS200, may be similar with the IS250.
With me it was all down to the tyres I had fitted. To cut a long story short the original Dunlops fitted to the Lexus were specialy designed for the car and they had reinforced side walls. When I replaced my rear pair I couldn't get the reinforced ones and had to go with the standard ones. After having these fitted I experienced similar problems to you, it felt like the back end was floating and I had tp put in small corrections to the steering to compensate. This only occured at motorway speeds.
This was on my first IS200 and I changed to a newer one (2004 model) about 18 months ago. Now I have just replaced my rear tyres on this one for the first time, with Firestones as thats what was allready fitted, and I am experiencing a similar issue but not as bad as previous. I wondered whether it was down to tyre pressures and last night I increased the pressure in the rears to 35psi. This morning driving into work it seems to of cured the problem but time will tell.
So, first of all I would check you pressures and maybe try adjusting up/down to see if that makes any difference Secondly I'd check what make and types of tyres you have fitted to see if there is any kind of mismatch there, especialy the load rating because even if they are the same make I think this will indicate whether they are reinforced or not.
I hope this helps and gives you some ideas to start but I'm sure someone else will be along soon with more knowledge/experience on the subject.
Dave
