Wtf! £50 increase for using a k&n airfilter
I have just been told by my insurers that I will be charged an additional £50 on my premiums for the use of a k&n. We all know the claims of 1-4 extra bhp are high at the best of times, but seriously! Just gonna stick with ordinary paper based on that. Has anyone else been penalised for using a lifetime filter instead of the oem's?
It is modifying your car, therefore they will use it to leaver more money from you - rightly or wrongly.
what company is it, you could do what some of us do here and thats to get a collection of mods together then add them all at the same time thus only 1 admin charge and they normally dont know what to charge when you add lots of little bits that have little or no bearing on the performance side of the car.....
Good idea rabster. The 50 didn't even include the 26 admin! Tbh I'm not really modding the performance of the car deliberately it's just for a tenner over the price of oem I thought the k&n may make it easier for me to do some basic servicing with no further need for buying more filters. That and just having been soaked to the skin on the way home from work and I'm resigned to buying a nasty ole oem replacement.
Interesting point I got from a senior insurance underwriter a few weeks back...
Apparently you legally only have to "declare your modifications at the point of renewal or inception of the policy" - modifications undertaken during the year do not have to be declared until the policy renewal comes around...
This was a bloke from Aviva, so he should know his stuff...
Marsdendean I didn't bother declaring mine, as i thought "it was a standard item" . . . .. maybe i should?
Its not so much the fact that you've added 1-5bhp to your car, its more the fact that you've just told them that you aren't average joe just poodling around in your car. You are instead a boy racer with a massive intake that like to drive everywhere in 2nd gear, terrorise grannies and do doughnuts in the Mc Donalds car park on a friday night.

i put a turbo in mine and body kit etc and not one penny more, got to love sweden for that, even went down this year by 50 pounds
no as the car is new car checked now with it all in so it's like doing a full car mot with bhp and other checks like a new car has before it's sold,
